Through a grant from the CT Department of Children and Families, the SAFE Family Recovery program offers three programs to support parents and caregivers address substance use issues across the spectrum of recovery.
SAFE Family Recovery helps identify client needs for substance use services, links them with providers, builds motivation to enter and remain in services, and supports a return to long-term family functioning that promotes child well-being.
SBIRT helps identify substance use problems, provides brief advice or interventions using motivational interviewing, and offers referrals to treatment. SBIRT is delivered at the New Haven DCF Office as well as the clinic locations of BHcare and Bridges Healthcare.
MDFR is an evidence based program that empowers caregivers to provide a safe and healthy environment for their children by addressing their substance use and other factors that impact their parenting.
MDFR Specialists meet with caregivers weekly in their home, in the community, or using telehealth. MDFR serves the whole family – the affected child(ren), the parents and other caregivers, and other significant family members.
RMCS starts after substance use treatment ends to help caregivers practice skills learned during treatment.
RMCS includes frequent (at least weekly) in person and/or telephone/text “check-ins” immediately following the referral. Early detection of returns to substance use and re-referral to treatment are key benefits of RMCS. Check-ins taper over time based on caregiver needs.
